John Tanner comes to CGCN after working in government for more than twenty-one years, including eighteen years on Capitol Hill and three years at the Department of the Interior. 

Most recently, he served as Deputy Staff Director for the Minority at the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources for then-Ranking Member John Barrasso (R-WY), overseeing legislative activity in the Senate related to the Department of the Interior and the Forest Service.

John worked at the Department of the Interior from 2017 to 2021. At Interior, he was the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks where he oversaw the operations and budgets of the Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service.

He also served as a Senior Advisor to the Secretary of the Interior with the specific responsibility of managing the Senate confirmation of the Secretary the Interior. He also managed other confirmations, including the Solicitor; the Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management and Budget; and the Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks.
